New OpenClaw Computer Use Agent is INSANE!

New OpenClaw computer use agent is insane. I'm not joking. This new update just dropped on April 27th, 2026. It's called OpenClaw 2026.427 and it lets an AI agent take over your Mac.

Like stuff. Type stuff. Pen apps. Move files.

While you go grab coffee, been playing with this for the last few days. And I have to tell you, this is the moment desktop AI agents got real for normal people. Not just coders. Not just people who love the terminal.

Real people. With real jobs. Who just want to stop doing the same boring stuff every day? Here's what's actually new.

OpenClaw added something called Codex Computer Use. It's a built-in setup for letting your AI agent see your screen and control it. You type one command. It checks if everything is ready.

You type one more command. It installs the tools. Then your agent can run your computer like a person would. And the best part?

It's safe. Like really safe. OpenClaw built in something called fail closed checks. In plain words, that means before the agent does anything risky, it checks the safety guard first.

If the guard isn't there, the agent just stops. Won't run. Won't click. Won't type.

So you don't end up with an AI deleting your whole downloads folder while you're in the bathroom. Now let me explain why this matters. Before this update, getting an AI to control your computer was a pain. You had to set up like five different things. You had to be a developer.

You had to know what MCP servers were. You had to glue tools together. Most people just gave up. With this new update, it's two commands.

So here's what's actually inside this update. Let me break it down so you get the full picture. First, the setup is finally a one-line install. Before, you had to wire up MCP servers by hand.

CP just stands for model context protocol. Think of it like a translator. The AI speaks one language. Your computer speaks another.

CP sits in the middle and translates. Before this update, you had to set up that translator yourself. Now open core just does it. Second, there's a marketplace for desktop tools.

Before, if you wanted your agent to be able to control Photoshop, you had to find some random plugin online and hope it worked. Now there's a built-in marketplace. You browse, you click install, the tool is ready. The fail closed safety thing I mentioned.

This is the big one. Open core built it so the agent literally cannot do desktop control unless the safety check passes. So you can hand the keys over without losing sleep. Fourth, there's a new sandbox option.

You can run the agent inside a docker sandbox now. Plus they added GPU pass-through. So your agent can use your graphics card for AI tasks while still being walled off from your main system. That's actually a big deal for people who want to test stuff without breaking their real computer.

Now you might be sitting there thinking, wait isn't this dangerous? Honest answer can be. If you give any AI full control of your computer, things can go wrong. That's just true.

But open core built this whole thing around the idea that the safety has to be there first. Before any action runs. The official docs are clear about this. The agent will not silently keep going if the safety server isn't running.

It will stop. We'll tell you. You decide what to do. Computer use is a codex native MCP plugin for local desktop control.

Open core does not vendor the desktop app, execute desktop actions itself, or bypass codex permissions. So the permissions stay on your side. You're in charge. Let me also tell you who's behind this.

Open core was started by a guy named Peter Steinberger. He's an Austrian developer. He launched the first version in November, 2025. Back then it was called Claude bot and malt bot.

Now open core. The project crossed 250,000 GitHub stars by early March and has been releasing at a pace that most commercial software vendors cannot match. So this isn't some weekend project. This is one of the fastest growing AI tools on the planet right now.

In February, 2026 Steinberger announced he's joining open AI and he set up a nonprofit foundation to keep open core alive and free, which means this thing isn't going anywhere. It's going to keep getting better. Now let me show you the kind of stuff you can actually do with the computer use agent. Real things, not coder stuff.

You can have it sort your email every morning. It opens Gmail, reads your inbox, moves the junk, flags the important ones, drafts replies for the easy ones. You can have it pull data from a website you visit every day. Maybe you check three different sites for prices, for stock info, for sports scores.

The agent does it for you and writes a quick summary. You can have it fill out the same form over and over. If you do client onboarding and you copy info from one system to another, this is a dream. You can have it organize your messy downloads folder.

Yes, that one. The one you haven't cleaned in four years. You can have it book appointments by clicking through a website that doesn't have an API. These are all things normal people do every week and now they can be automated by an agent that actually sees and clicks like a person would.

Here's the part that really got me. The open core team also added something called deep infra to this update. Deep infra is one of those services that gives you access to a lot of different AI models in one place. Image, audio, video, voice.

So now your computer use agent doesn't just click things. It can also make a video, a voice clip, or an image while it's running tasks for you. I'll slow down here for a second because I know some of you are thinking, okay but my work is too special and AI can't do what I do. Get it?

That a lot. And honestly you're partly right. The agent isn't going to replace you but it's going to take the boring 40% of your day off your plate. The clicking, the copying, the pasting, the same five steps every Monday.

That part is gone now if you set this up and the people who set it up first, they get their evenings back. You take on more clients without hiring, they stop dropping balls. That's the real win here. Let me also tell you what this update is not.

It's not magic. It's not perfect. We'll mess up sometimes. We'll click the wrong button.

We'll forget what you asked. The current build is still early. Computer use is Mac OS specific. The Codex owned MCP server may need local OS permissions before it can inspect or control apps.

So if you're on Windows you'll need to use the regular OpenClaw browser and shell tools for now. The full Codex computer use mode is Mac only at the moment. Here's the trend line. Two weeks OpenClaw ships a new update.

Some weeks they ship two. The pace is wild. So even if a feature isn't perfect today it usually is in a few weeks. Here's why I think this update is so big.

For the last year AI agents have been a buzzword. Everyone was promising them. Almost nobody was shipping ones that worked. The demos looked cool but the real world tools were clunky.

Broke. It couldn't see your screen. They couldn't click stuff that wasn't in their training. This update changes that.

Desktop control is now a default feature in one of the most popular open source AI agents on earth. The marketplace. Safety. The real install path.
