New Claude Cowork update is insane. That's the news today. Claude Cowork is coming to mobile and the web. You can hand Claude a task at your desk, walk away and pick up the finished work from your phone, close your laptop.
Claude keeps going anyway. Let me give you the real numbers behind this because they matter. Anthropic sampled over 1 million Cowork sessions from more than 600,000 organizations over a two-week window in May. And here's the part that should stop you.
More than 90% of that usage had nothing to do with writing code. Most of it was regular work, reports, spreadsheets, client decks. The single biggest category at just over a third of all usage was people asking Claude to pull scattered updates into one report, build onboarding checklists and reconcile messy spreadsheets. That's not a coder's job.
That's everyone's job. Hey, if we haven't met already, I'm the digital avatar of Julian Goldie, CEO of SEO agency, Goldie Agency. Whilst he's helping clients get more leads and customers, I'm here to help you get the latest AI updates. Julian Goldie reads every comment, so make sure you comment below.
Cowork started as a desktop-only app back in January. Back then, it needed your laptop open the entire time a task ran. Shut the lid and the task died with it. Now it doesn't.
Claude Cowork runs remotely on Anthropic's own servers. So your session and your files live with your account instead of your machine. You can start something at your desk in the morning and check on it from your phone at lunch. Anthropic's own announcement put it plainly, your work follows you now.
Start a task at your desk, check on it from your phone and pick up the finished output anywhere. Here's the one detail that actually explains why this matters. Before, Cowork was like a worker chained to a single desk. The second you left the office, the worker stopped too.
Now that worker has a phone in their pocket. They can reach you when they hit a decision only you can make and they keep moving on everything else. That's the whole shift. It's not a smarter model.
It's a model that doesn't need you sitting next to it anymore. Scheduled tasks show this best. Anthropic gave an example. Set your client prep for six in the morning.
Claude works through the email threads, digs through call transcripts, checks recent news, builds the full briefing document and even drafts the follow-up email. It doesn't send it. It waits for you. You wake up, grab your coffee and the decision is sitting there, ready for your yes or no.
Now picture that inside the AI Profit boardroom. A member running a small agency could schedule Claude to check overnight for new signup questions from potential members, pull together a short welcome message draft and have it waiting by six in the morning. No laptop needed, no sitting there refreshing an inbox. You wake up, you approve it, it goes out.
This is where it connects to what I keep telling people inside the AI Profit boardroom. If you want to save real time and stop being glued to your laptop all day, this update alone is worth learning properly. We just built a full walkthrough on Claude Cowork for mobile and web showing you step-by-step how to set up scheduled tasks that handle the boring parts of running a business automatically. Daily tutorials walk you through exactly how to connect Cowork to your files, your calendar, your email so it can actually get things done for you.
If you want to save time and start automating pieces of your business with tools like Claude Cowork, come check it out. Link is in the comments and description. Let's keep going because there's more here worth knowing. Desktop is still the deepest version of Cowork.
On your computer, Claude can reach your local files and use your browser directly. That's the full experience. But the web and mobile version opens the door to people who never installed the desktop app in the first place. You don't need to be technical.
You don't need to know what a terminal is. You open the app on your phone, you type what you want done and it starts. Right now, this is rolling out first to max plan users with other plans following over the coming weeks. Anthropic also doubled the usage limits for Cowork through August 5th.
So anyone testing this has plenty of room to try bigger tasks without worrying they'll hit a wall halfway through. I want to talk about what this actually replaces because it's easy to hear AI agent and picture something abstract. It's not abstract. Picture someone running a small AI profit boardroom style operation.
Every week, they need to reconcile spend, check which subscriptions are worth keeping and write a short summary for their own records. That's exactly the kind of task Anthropic's own data shows is the single biggest use case for Cowork right now. Business process work. Not flashy, not exciting.
Just the stuff that eats an hour every single week. Now it can run in the background while you're doing literally anything else. Here's the part worth sitting with. TechCrunch pointed out something sharp about this move.
This isn't just a feature update. It's a signal that Anthropic wants Cowork to feel less like a coding tool and more like an actual agentic Coworker. One that works in the background, follows you across devices and only asks for your input when a decision truly needs a human. TechCrunch also noted OpenAI has made a similar move with Codex, a tool that started as a coding assistant and is increasingly being used by non-developers for reports, spreadsheets, presentations and research.
The direction is the same everywhere. Agents built for coders are turning into agents built for everyone. Let's bring this back to something practical you could try this week. Say you run community coaching calls like we do inside the AI profit boardroom.
You could hand Claude the call transcript and ask it to pull out every question members asked, group them by topic and draft short answers for the ones that come up again and again. You'd start that from your desk in the morning and by the time you check your phone at lunch, you've got a clean summary waiting, no laptop required. That's the shift happening right now. Work doesn't wait for you to sit down anymore.
It runs while you're at lunch, while you're in a meeting, while you're asleep. And I know some of you are thinking this sounds like it's only for people who already know how to set up automations. It isn't. The whole point of moving co-work to mobile and web is making it usable by people who never touch the desktop version at all.
I also want to be honest about the other side of this because I always try to be straight with you. Not every task is ready to run fully unsupervised yet. Some capabilities like reaching your local files or using your browser still need the desktop app open on your computer even when the session is technically running remotely. So if your task depends on files sitting on your laptop, you still need that laptop open somewhere.
This isn't magic yet. It's a real step forward, not a finished product. Now think about what this means for how a small team actually runs day to day. Before, someone had to physically be at their desk to keep long tasks moving.
That meant work queued up waiting for whoever had laptop access. Now that bottleneck is gone. A task can start on one device and finish on a completely different one with no one babysitting it in between. For anyone running a lean operation, whether that's a coaching community, an agency, or a one-person content business, that means fewer hours spent supervising software and more hours spent on the actual decisions only you can make.
Here's where I think this goes next. Right now it's scheduled tasks and background sessions, but Anthropic has already said more plans are getting access over the coming weeks and chat and co-work are being merged into one shared home on the web so there's no separate app or separate tab to remember. The direction is obvious. Fewer barriers between having an idea and having Claude execute it no matter what device you're holding when the idea hits you.
So what do you actually do with this today? If you run any kind of small business or community, start with one repeatable task, something you already do every single week without thinking. Hand that one task to Claude co-work first. Don't try to automate your entire operation on day one.
Pick the report you dread writing, the checklist you rebuild from scratch every Monday, the summary nobody wants to type up. Let Claude take that one thing off your plate first and build from there. If you're someone who's never used an AI agent for anything beyond asking a question, this is the moment to start because the barrier just dropped. You don't need a desktop app.
You don't need to know how to code. You need a phone and one task you're tired of doing manually. And if you're already running an AI profit boardroom style community or coaching business, this update is worth building a real process around, not just poking at once and forgetting. 20 minutes today setting up one scheduled task could save you real hours every single week going forward.
Here's the human part of this because I think it matters more than the feature itself. A lot of people hear AI agent working while you sleep and they feel uneasy about it, like they're being replaced by something they don't control. I get that. But what Anthropic's own data shows is that the biggest use case isn't replacing anyone's job.
It's taking the parts of every job that nobody wanted in the first place. The reconciling, the reformatting, the chasing down updates from five different people and finally handing that part off. The work that's left for you is the work that actually needed a human being all along. If you want to actually learn how to set this up properly instead of guessing your way through it, that's exactly what we walk through inside the AI profit boardroom.
We just built a step-by-step playbook for Claude Cowork on mobile and web showing you how to schedule tasks, connect your files and get real work done without sitting at your laptop all day. We run coaching calls every week where members bring their own setups and get help live. So if you're stuck on anything specific, you're not figuring it out alone. There's a member map too so you can find other people near you already using tools like this and swap notes in person.
