New Claude update changes everything and here's what just happened. Claude is now living inside your Microsoft Office. Word. Excel.

PowerPoint. And Outlook. All four. The same time.

And it carries the full memory of what you're doing from one app to the next. So you don't have to keep telling it what the project is, ever again. Thropic just made this generally available. Word.

Excel. PowerPoint. Out of beta. Live for everyone on a paid plan.

And Outlook is now in public beta too. This dropped on May 7th, 2026. So this is brand new. Like hours new.

Now why does this matter? Because most work doesn't happen in one app. You get an email. You open the file.

You build a spreadsheet. You make a deck. You send it back. That's like 5 tabs and 10 copy pastes.

Claude just killed all of that. You can keep the email, the doc, the spreadsheet and the slides all open. Side by side. And Claude moves between them.

Holding everything in its head. Let me show you what this actually looks like. You get an email in Outlook. Claude reads it.

You ask Claude to open the attachment in Word. It does. You say, build me the numbers behind this in Excel. Claude opens Excel.

Pulls the figures from the Word doc. Builds real formulas. Across multiple tabs. Then you say, now make the deck.

Claude opens PowerPoint. Uses your team's template. Pulls the chart from Excel. Drops it in.

And here's the part that breaks my brain. If you change one number in Excel, the chart in PowerPoint updates. The number in the Word memo updates. All of it.

Live. You don't touch a thing. Claude does it. That's not a small upgrade.

That's the way most office work gets done. Gone. Replaced. Let me get into each app one by one.

So you know exactly what's possible. Claude for Excel. This thing reads your whole workbook. Cells.

Formulas. Tabs. Comments. The whole thing.

You can ask it to build a model from scratch. You can ask it to clean up messy data. You can ask it to test different assumptions. And here's the key part.

It edits the cells. It doesn't just talk about it. It does the work inside the file. And it highlights every single change it made.

So you can review before saving. Nothing happens behind your back. For example, you could open up a customer list. Ask Claude to clean the names, fix the email formatting, and group people by city.

Done in one prompt. Claude for PowerPoint. This is the one that surprised me most. PowerPoint is the worst app on earth to use.

Everyone hates it. Claude reads your slide master. Your fonts. Your colors.

Your layouts. Then it builds slides that match. Like a real designer. Not garbage AI slides.

You can ask it to build a full deck from a description. Or fix a slide. Or turn a Word doc into slides. And it makes native PowerPoint charts.

Not images. Real charts you can edit later. For example, you could say make me a 10 slide deck pitching the AI profit boardroom to small business owners. Show them the value of joining our community.

And it builds it. Inside your template. Claude for Word. This one's straightforward but powerful.

Claude reads your whole document. Including track changes. Including comments. Including footnotes.

You can ask it to draft new sections in your heading style. You can ask it to fix tone. You can ask it to redline a contract. And it uses tracked changes mode.

So nothing gets accepted until you say so. For example, you could drop in a long blog post and ask Claude to turn it into a one-page summary your customers can read in 30 seconds. Claude for Outlook. This is in public beta right now.

And it's the one I think will save people the most hours. You ask Claude to triage your inbox. It sorts everything into three buckets. What needs your response?

What Claude can draft for you? And what's noise? That alone is worth the price of admission. It drafts replies in your voice.

Sitting in your compose pane. Waiting for you to hit send. It reads attachments in line. Without you opening them.

So it can read a Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or PDF attachment from inside the email. Without switching apps. It can summarize long email threads with per email citations. So you know who said what.

And it can find meeting times across multiple people. And draft the calendar invite for you. Inside Outlook's native form. Quick pause.

That's not a bunch of hypothetical stuff. Truly what people are doing right now. Now let me handle the skeptic in your head. Because I get it.

You've heard AI changes everything 100 times this year. And most of it doesn't actually change your day. This one is different. And here's why.

It's not asking you to learn a new app. It's not asking you to change your workflow. It's not asking you to upload your files somewhere weird. It's literally just inside the apps you already use.

Word. Excel. PowerPoint. Outlook.

The same apps your team has been using since forever. The friction to start is zero. You install the add-in from Microsoft AppSource. Sign in with your Claude account.

There's nothing to learn. You just open Word and start asking Claude questions. That's why I think this is the one that finally breaks AI into normal businesses. Not just tech people.

Not just early adopters. Normal people. Accountants. Reps.

Office managers. Lawyers. Anybody who lives in Microsoft Office. Which is most of the working world.

Let me talk about who this is for and who it's not for. If you live in Outlook all day, this is for you. If you build spreadsheets for clients, this is for you. If you make decks for pitches or sales, this is for you.

If you write proposals or contracts, this is for you. If you manage a team that uses Microsoft Office, this is for you. Who this isn't for? If you only use Google Workspace, this isn't for you yet.

Thropic has Claude for Chrome and other tools for that. But Microsoft 365 is where this update lives. Let me also tell you the limits. So you go in with your eyes open.

Claude can only work with files that are currently open. It can't go open a file for you. It can't go close a file. You have to have the spreadsheet, the deck and the dock all open at the same time.

Then Claude moves between them. Chat history doesn't sync across devices because it's stored on your computer. So if you start a chat on your laptop, you can't pick it up on your phone. That might change later.

Right now, it's per device. Cross app chat history doesn't save between sessions. So if you close everything and come back tomorrow, history of how Claude worked to cross Excel and PowerPoint together is gone. The per app history stays.

The cross app history doesn't. Some setting toggles need to be turned on. For pro and max plans, cross app is on by default. For team and enterprise plans, the org owner has to turn it on first.

So if you're at a bigger company and it's not working, ask your IT person to flip the toggle. Okay, so let me bring this home. Six months ago, Claude was a chat window. You typed in a question, typed back an answer.

You copy and paste it into your work. Claude is sitting inside the four apps where most office work happens. Reading your files, editing your files, moving information between them, holding the full context of what you're doing across hours and days. That's a different thing.

And the gap between people using this and people not using this is going to get huge, fast. Because here's what happens. The person using this finishes their proposal in 30 minutes. The person not using this takes four hours.

The person using this triages their inbox in 10 minutes. The person not using this loses an hour every single day. That gap compounds week after week, month after month, a year from now. Using this is going to look at someone not using this and wonder what they're doing all day.

Where we look at people who still use a paper calendar. Last thing I want to say, then I'll give you the action steps. The company's already using this in their early access. Companies like ServiceNow are saying out loud, Claude does the work in the app itself.

Instead of asking us to move stuff between tools, that's the whole pitch right there. Less app switching, more work getting done inside the file. If you've been waiting for the moment, AI starts saving you actual hours every day. This is the moment for most office workers.

This is the one. Here's what to do. If you're on a paid Claude plan, go to Microsoft AppSource, search for Claude. Install Claude for Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

Share one listing, then install Claude for Outlook. Separate listing, sign in with your Claude account. If your team is on Microsoft 365, talk to your IT admin. Get them to deploy this for the whole company through the Microsoft 365 admin center.

Make sure they turn on cross app working in your settings. If you're not on a paid plan yet, you'll need at least Claude Pro to use this. The free version doesn't include the Microsoft Office add-ins. Then start small.

Pick one workflow you do every week. Maybe it's a weekly report. Maybe it's a sales proposal. Maybe it's just clearing your inbox.

And run that workflow with Claude for one week. See how much time you save. Then add another workflow. Then another.
