Google Gemini plus Notebook LM is insane. Notebooks in Gemini bring real organization to complex tasks, and this update changes how you work with AI for good. On April 8th, 2026, Google flipped a switch. They put Notebook LM right inside the Gemini app.

Google AI Ultra Pro and Plus users on the web got access first, with mobile and free users coming in the next few weeks. Here is what that actually means. You now get a folder system inside Gemini. Each folder is called a Notebook.

You drop in your PDFs, your Google Docs, your past chats, even YouTube links. Gemini remembers all of it. Forever. Across every chat.

Every day. Every project. That is the part nobody's talking about loud enough. Most AI chats forget you the second you close the tab.

You explain your business. You explain your goals. You upload your files. Then tomorrow you start over.

Same explanation. Uploads. Boring loop. Books kill that loop.

You build the Notebook once. Then you just open it and keep working. Gemini already knows your stuff. Already knows your tone.

And it pulls answers from your own files, not random stuff off the web. Hey, if we haven't met already, I'm the digital avatar of Julian Goldie, CEO of SEO agency Goldie Agency. Whilst he's helping clients get more leads and customers, I'm here to help you get the latest AI updates. Here is where it gets good.

The Notebooks sync both ways with Notebook LM. Any source you add in Gemini shows up in Notebook LM. Any source you add in Notebook LM shows up in Gemini. No file transfers.

No copy, paste. One brain, two apps. Why does that matter? Because Notebook LM has tools Gemini does not have.

You can take your sources and turn them into video overviews, cinematic video overviews, and infographics right from the same Notebook. So you do your deep chat work in Gemini. Then you jump to Notebook LM and turn that same info into a video, a podcast, or a one-page graphic. Same files.

Two outputs. Zero work moving stuff around. Let me show you what this looks like in real life. Want to grow the AI profit boardroom?

Make one Notebook called AIPB Growth. Drop in our community FAQs, our member wins, our content calendar, our top blog posts, and links to videos that did well. Write custom instructions like, you help me grow our AI automation community. Speak in plain words.

Focus on saving members time and getting more leads. Now every chat inside that Notebook is locked in. Gemini for blog ideas does not pull random stuff. It pulls from my actual files, from my actual member wins, from my actual content.

The answers come back tight, on brand, and ready to use. Tomorrow I open the same Notebook. It already knows me. Knows the boardroom.

Just keep going. That is the unlock. That is why this is different. Now real quick before I show you more.

Link in the description or go to AI Profit Boardroom. Okay, back to it. Let me dig into the parts most people are missing. First, the source limits.

Ultra subscribers get 600 sources per Notebook. That is huge. You can drop in a whole library of stuff and Gemini will hold it all. Pro and plus get less, but still way more than a normal chat.

Free users will get a smaller cap when they roll out. Second, the sources you can add. PDFs of any length. Google Docs.

Files from your computer. Website URLs that Gemini reads automatically. YouTube videos where the transcript gets pulled and indexed. Copy paste text from anywhere.

So if you find a great article, you paste the link. If you find a great YouTube video, you paste the link. Gemini reads it and adds it to the Notebook brain. Third, custom instructions.

This is the secret weapon. You write rules once for that Notebook. Tone, audience, format, goals. Your Notebook uses a single set of custom instructions across both Notebook LM and Gemini.

Changes you make to your Notebook's instructions in one app will apply in the other app as well. Hit it once. Both apps follow it. Fourth, you can move old chats in.

You can retroactively pull any conversation into a Notebook. If you had a great research session last week, it's not lost. You can fold it into your current project. That is gold.

Those chats you had where you found something useful? Drag them in. Now they are part of the brain too. Fifth, source grounding.

This is the biggest deal for serious work. When you chat in Notebook LM, the AI only uses your sources. Not random opinions, just your stuff. Notebook LM responses are grounded exclusively in your Notebook sources.

When you chat in Gemini, it can use your sources plus the web. Pick. Want pure source-only answers? Use Notebook LM.

Want answers that mix your stuff with fresh web data? Use Gemini. Same Notebook. Two ways to ask.

Pick the one that fits the job. Here is one example for the AI profit boardroom. Want to write a fresh email to new members? Notebook in Notebook LM and ask it to summarize our top three member wins from the last month, only using the sources.

It pulls clean grounded summaries. Then I switch to Gemini, same Notebook, and ask it to turn those wins into an email that gets people excited to join the next coaching call. Gemini uses my source material plus its writing skills to write the email. Two tools, same Notebook.

One output. Now think about how much faster that is. No re-explaining the boardroom. No re-uploading.

No lost context. Okay, let me hit you with another big one. The video overviews and infographics. Most people still have not used these.

They are wild. Users can generate video overviews, cinematic video overviews, and infographics from Notebook materials without switching applications or re-uploading files. You drop in your sources. You hit a button.

Notebook LM turns the whole thing into a watchable video or a clean infographic. For students that means turning class notes into a study video. For a business owner that means turning your product info into a sales infographic in minutes. Here is the AIPB version.

Take all our member wins, our coaching call topics, and our roadmap, drop them in a notebook, and ask Notebook LM for an infographic showing the value members get when they join. Now have a fresh visual asset for our landing page. Made from our own real stuff. One click.

No designer. That is the kind of speed that changes how a small team works. Now let me cover something nobody's mentioning enough. The studio panel inside Notebook LM.

Artifacts. Gemini will not have the ability to generate items from the Notebook LM studio panel. This includes the ability to make artifacts such as audio overviews, video overviews, infographics, slide deck, etc. These features are only available in Notebook LM.

So if you want the audio podcast, the video overview, the slide deck, or the infographic, you go to Notebook LM. Gemini cannot make those for you even with the same notebook open. It's Gemini for the chat. It's Notebook LM for the artifacts.

They work together. That trade-off is fine because the sync is instant. No reload. No re-upload.

Click over and your stuff is there. Let me hit the comparison real quick because people keep asking. ChatGPT has projects. Claude has projects.

Both let you group chats and files. Like ChatGPT projects and Claude projects, Gemini notebooks sync two-way with Notebook LM giving users access to video overviews and infographics. That is the edge. ChatGPT and Claude do not have a research engine like Notebook LM hooked into them.

Notebook LM's audio overviews, infographics, and slide decks give Gemini users output formats extending well beyond text summaries. So if you live inside the Google world already, this stack just got way more powerful. A few quick tips before we wrap. First, name your notebook's type.

AIPB growth. Q2 content. Sales calls 2026. Make it easy to find later.

Bad names lead to lost notebooks. Second, write strong custom instructions. Tell the notebook who it is helping, what tone to use, and what to focus on. The better the instructions, the better the answers every single time.

Clean your sources. Do not just dump every file in. Drop in the best stuff. Top FAQs, best blog posts, real customer wins.

Garbage in, garbage out. Strong sources, strong answers. Fourth, use both apps. Do your daily chat work in Gemini.

Use Notebook LM when you want artifacts like audio, video, or infographics. Notebook, both apps, full power. Fifth, pin your top notebooks. Pinning up to five notebooks for quick and easy access.

Pin the ones you open every day so they sit at the top. Use the add to notebook option in your old chats. You can retroactively pull any conversation into a notebook. Go through your past chats, find the gold, and pull it in.

You probably already did the work, you just need to organize it. Seventh, set use notebook memory on. An overflow menu provides controls for enabling or disabling use notebook memory and adding custom instructions that shape how Gemini responds within that specific context. This is what makes the notebook actually remember you across sessions.
